Key Points:
1. Caused by a virus.

5. Year-round transmission, but rainy season increases mosquito breeding.
Signs and Symptoms:
i. High fever (3-7 days).
ii. Intense headache.
iii. Painful joints and muscles.
iv. Pain behind eyes.
v. Often a rash (may appear as fever reduces).
vi. Dangerous complications can occur - hemorrhagic or shock syndrome.
vii. Bleeding under skin, gums, nose, or in vomit.
Day-time biting.
1. Breeding in HUMAN-MADE containers with clean water.
2. Prevention by Environmental Cleanup of Breeding Containers:
3. Old tyres.
4. Dispose, cover, or fill with earth.
5. Water storage (tanks, drums, jars, overhead tanks, coolers).
6. Cover to keep out mosquitoes (can use rustproof mesh or screen).
7. Add Abate® (temephos) to kill larvae in the water.
8. Small containers and garbage - clean up / bury / burn.
9. Tins, bottles, coconut shells, garbage, anything that collects water.
10. Cooler and drip-pans, flower pots, animal water dish, ant traps, etc.
11. Empty water every week, both indoors and outdoors.
